The following story illustrates how a visual or creative person might understand a new rule compared to someone who has adapted to learn by rote. Today we are told what to do, but we are not told why. Reasoning has now gone and if you do it you will not be catered for. On any topic I will gather the information I need that connects with relevant facts. I don’t retain words if they don’t fit into the complete picture.

Like school children asking “why” and being told “because I said so” I don’t remember things that do not make sense. I remember them because there is a reason behind it.

I called in and very clearly said that if my private bin can no longer be used, a new one could be delivered. They are all over town. 4 were delivered to a friend who also has a private bin. Apparently, the container is allocated according to the property type. I am told if I get a sack I can call them back – the same people I am talking to right now to say i would like a bin – to change the sack for a bin.

How much more of my time do they need? Everything requires thought and imagination and we are not getting far by leaving those things behind. Whether you are paid to do a job or not, you can still engage your mind, use your reasoning abilities and do it well. Jobsworths tend to follow scripts and rules and not think for themselves.

Did anyone else have a private wheelie bin before the new ones were distributed who has found out the hard way they now won’t collect your rubbish?

I have a private wheelie bin and the communication that they will stop (2 weeks ago) emptying my bin, which I’ve shared with 2 other properties for 10 years came when it was full and said they would not empty it.

Apparently there have been many communications, but I was issued with a black bag, which the whole idea of providing free wheelie bins was moving on from. I received my new food waste bin and a black bag.

Why oh why would I put my rubbish in a black bag while seagulls are nesting their young on a road, which is a wind tunnel? I have picked various new regulation wheelie bins up off the road.

Walking around Falmouth I see new bin after new bin. Has every resident except me called up and asked for these in exchange for a black bag?

NO. I have friends on another road in a building with 4 flats. They have a private green bin – THAT WAS EMPTIED THIS WEDNESDAY – and were given 4 new bins as well.

The message needs to be clear and relevant for us all, tenants, landlords, old and young, on social media, going out to work, not leaving the house working flat out at home.

I have dyspraxia, which in this context means I piece whatever topic together by a process of investigation.

The way this has been communicated is “here is your new bin” and “we will not empty that bin” it is NOT “we are now giving out free bins so will give you a new bin and then someone will take away your old bin”

That would be so clear. That would be so inclusive. That would get onto everyone’s radar. Here is a bin to put out your household rubbish.

If something is communicated and it is not received or understood by a few people, please do not shame them. Do not alienate them.

I understand the new collection lorries work with the new bins. I DID NOT know the new lorries with arms to empty wheelie bins did not work with my bin.

I understand that one company delivers new bins, another collects old bins. I understand an old round bin not being emptied, but not a solid wheelie bin that cost £55. Aren’t we reducing plastic, saving from landfill and aiming for net zero.

Where would my old bin go? Would it sit there like the old round bins have for decades? Shall I put plants in it?
